Congratulations go to Mark Welker from Perth, Australia for being the first person to submit their travel story. He also found a problem with the email link that has been fixed now. Two cheers for Mark, and especially for his entry, "Desert Stories" in On the Road |

Every now and again you run across a really great blog, one that really shows the true power of an open journal for sharing new ideas. Josh's Travels is one that I came upon today. It showcases the spirit of being on the road, and all the great ideas that come with it. I can't recommend it enough, so check it out . |

Always keep a journal and a pen with you while traveling. That quick thought that pops into your head or that idle observation you make while on the road will be a reminder for the great times. I always use a Moleskine Journal , and I've found they're really the best journals on the market. |

Traveling Forever has been publicly available for under a week now, and we're already beginning to see hack attempts. It looks like they're automated script kiddie attacks for now, but please realize if the site goes down, it was probably an attacker. Get the article that may be the reason for the attack before it's gone. |

When the temperature is dropping and your gear is soaked, starting a fire in the rain can be a livesaver. The biggest problem getting one started is finding tinder in the rain. Try looking under live evergreens for small branches, and make sure they're dry by trying to snap them. If they bend, they're still green and no good. If they snap, they're dry and ready to burn. Start your fire with these dry twigs and make sure to surround them with bigger pieces of wood to dry out. |
